It has been said that prayer is the battlefield of spiritual warfare. Unfortunately, it is not something that most Christians take seriously, which is probably why most see little growth or power. It is vital to the life of a Christian, just as communication is to marriage or any relationship for that matter. This year, I am going to go through 52 prayer points suggested in Jennifer Kennedy Dean’s book Praying Through Adversity, one each week, in an effort to encourage this fundamental practice.
The first step to developing any habit is to set a routine. Without a plan, it just won’t happen. Set a time and place to meet with God in prayer every day. It does not have to be a long session, especially at first. This week, begin your time asking God to direct your prayers and if your thoughts start to wander follow them. Rather than keeping to your own agenda of prayer focus, allow God to guide your prayers. Every time your thoughts move to something or someone else, pray about it. See if there is anything in that new thought that could be prayed over. Ask God what needs your prayer.
The king’s heart is like channels of water
in the hand of the Lord;
He turns it wherever
He wishes.
Proverbs 21:1 New American
Standard Bible 1995
Seek God’s guidance and allow Him to direct not only your prayers, but your life, and see what He has in store for you.
