For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all
will be made alive.
1 Corinthians 15:22 New American
Standard Bible 1995
Adam was the father of all
mankind. He was made in the perfect Creation, and enjoyed perfect communion
with God. Unfortunately Adam sinned. He chose to disobey God which cursed not
only Adam, but all of humanity, all of his offspring. His sin affects all of
us. Because of Adam, we are all sentenced to live as slaves to sin and die
separated from God for eternity. But God…His purpose in creating people was to
enjoy fellowship with them, so He made a way to bridge that separation, to heal
and pay for our sin. That way is Jesus. He died in our place, paying the
penalty for our sin so that we can receive His righteousness and enjoy fellowship
with God, now and for eternity. In Adam, we all experience death, physically
and spiritually, but through Christ we will all be given life if we believe and
follow Him. We will still experience physical death, but gain spiritual life
for eternity. Some think it is unfair for all people to suffer because of Adam,
but it is even more unfair for Jesus to suffer in our place, for what we did. We
all sin, so we suffer because of our own sin as well as Adam’s. However, Jesus
never sinned, yet He still suffered the penalty of all sin. He paid the penalty
He did not deserve in order to give us a gift we did not deserve.
Adam brought death, but Jesus
brings life. We inherit Adam’s penalty, and Jesus’ gift is free, but we must
accept it. It doesn’t apply to us if we reject Him. Will you accept Jesus’
death for your sacrifice? Will you live in the newness of His life?
