Devotions: The Gift of Reconciliation and Freedom

For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Romans 5:10 New American Standard Bible 1995

We begin life as enemies of God and followers of satan. We can neither please Him nor be in His presence, born in sin and unable to be free from sin. But God…He sent Jesus to make a way for us to be reconciled to God through death. Only blood can cover sin and it took the precious blood of the Lamb of God to cleanse our sin and pay our debt. Through His death the penalty for our sin was atoned for so that we would no longer have to pay it ourselves if we so chose. When He came back to life He gave us the possibility of new, eternal life with Him. Dieing He defeated sin, and coming back to life He defeated death so that we are no longer bound by nor have any need to fear either. This is the Good News of the Gospel. We who could in no way pay for ourselves, were ransomed by the only Son of God, the true King of the universe. He gave up His place on the throne to come be with us, so that He can relate to us, and pay the debt we owe. Now, we no longer have to pay the penalty of our sin. If we believe that Jesus is God and that He came to earth, died for our sin and was brought back to life, then we are covered by His blood and made righteous.

Have you accepted this gift? Are you living in the newness of His life rather than in slavery to sin? Thank God for this gift we could never earn or deserve! Thank Him for His great love that caused Him to ransom you and save you from your sin! Commit to live a life solely for Him.
