And it will be said in that day,
“Behold, this is our God for
whom we have waited that He might save us.
This is the Lord for whom we have waited;
Let us rejoice and be glad in His
salvation.”
Isaiah 25:9 New American Standard
Bible 1995
Often messages of prophecy
have multiple fulfillments. They may refer to a time near and a time far in the
future. This verse could be one of those. The passage appears to reference the
end of time when this world will cease and all will be made new, but this
sentiment could refer to many times; Christ’s birth, resurrection and each
person’s salvation. In the end of time all people will recognize this truth,
but we could all have our own personal revelations as well and I believe many
people had this revelation at different times during Jesus’ life on earth,
especially at His birth. It is similar to statements made by Simeon and Anna,
prophets waiting at the temple for the coming of the Messiah. Jesus is the God
and Savior that all of creation has longed for, including all of humanity
though they don’t know it. Every person has an emptiness that can only filled
by Him, sadly most people don’t realize or refuse to acknowledge that He is the
answer. Only He can satisfy our deepest longings and fill the void in our
lives. Only He can bring the healing and restoration we desire. Only He can
give us lasting joy and peace.
As we come to Christmas Day,
join me in saying “Behold, this is our God…Let us rejoice and be glad in His
salvation!”
