Devotions: Fully Known

How precious also are Your thoughts for me, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand.
When I awake, I am still with You.

Psalm 139:17-18 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

God is a great thinker. His thoughts are too numerous to be counted. He ponders and probes everything for there is nothing He does not know or consider. He even knows all of our thoughts. To be honest, that can be an intimidating idea. We all long to be known, but to be fully and completely known can be terrifying because we are not perfect and that can lead to rejection. By itself this statement would not necessarily be a comforting one, but when added to the last line of the second verse everything changes. The original Hebrew carried the idea of continuance. It would be so easy for a person we are with to slip away while we sleep, yet when we wake God is still there. He continues with us no matter what, in spite of knowing all of our not so godly thoughts. God both fully, intimately knows us and yet loves us, too. He doesn’t reject us for our imperfections, even though He of everyone has the right to do so. Take some time to marvel at the amount of thinking God must do, how much it took for Him to imagine and create everything in existence. Then ponder how deeply He knows and loves you.
