Devotions: Who Knows Best?

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel,
“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit,
Who leads you in the way you should go.”
Isaiah 48:17 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The NIV translates this verse as “I am the [one] who teaches you what is best for you.” As strange as it may seem, most people don’t really believe that God knows what is best. Most Christians would openly say they believe it, but they live as if they don’t. If we really believed that God knew what was best for us why would we doubt Him? Why would we complain? Why would we disobey? The root of all of those is not trusting that God knows, or will do, what is best for us. We somehow believe that He is withholding something good from us, has some agenda of His own, or is mad at us and so doesn’t care at the moment. Likely, these stem from issues with our parents, but that is not a true reflection of God. God is good. He does love us and has promised to do what is best for us. He is faithful and never goes back on His word. Never. He is the one who has redeemed us. He created us and knows everything that has and will happen. He knows the best way for us to live so we need to trust and obey Him. He will lead us if we will trust and follow Him. He will keep our feet from slipping if we will take His path and keep our eyes on Him. He will teach us if we are willing to learn. Do you believe that God will do what is best for you? Are you willing to follow where He leads even if it’s not where you want to go, or doesn’t look like you think it should? Ask God to help you trust Him, believe the truth, and follow His path.
