Rejoice
always; pray without ceasing;
1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
These two verses are in a
portion of scripture on Christian conduct. Two practices which every Christian
should perform constantly are rejoicing and prayer. We should always be
thankful to God, praising Him for what He has given us, and talking with Him. Prayer
is more than just telling God what we want, or complaining about life. It is a
line of communication that should be open all the time. Conversation with God
should be ongoing, constantly aware of His presence in day to day life. Rejoicing
always does not mean that we are always happy. That is impossible. It does mean
that we are constantly finding things to be thankful for and praising God
continually in the midst of our circumstances. If we do these two things on a
regular basis, we will not only be more content with life, but find a better
quality of life with significantly less stress. We will be less vulnerable to
the storms of life and more enjoyable to be around. Which of these do you
struggle with the most? What can you do to cultivate them both in your walk?
