When Feet May Fail

We are taught to be self-sufficient and independent, to stand on our own two feet. What happens when we fall? What do we do when our own two feet are not enough, when they fail? Usually we can get by on our own, but there are times for everyone when we are not enough, when we can’t make it alone. What then?

Proverbs 3:5-6 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
Isaiah 45:22 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth;
For I am God, and there is no other.

When in trouble, turn to God. He has all the answers. He has all power and strength. He is the One who can and will carry us when we can no longer make it on our own. Many people call this using God as a crutch, turning to Him when we need help. In a way it is, and in a sense He shouldn’t be.

Instead of turning to God when times are hard, when we can no longer make it on our own, we should turn to Him always, for everything. He shouldn’t be our crutch, He should be our everything, our life support. We should ALWAYS trust in the Lord with all our heart. We should NEVER lean on our own understanding. The only way we can be saved is to turn to Him; that refers not only to salvation, but also saving from whatever trial we face. If we seemingly make it out on our own, it is only because God helped us and we didn’t realize it. Often our feet fail because we were not trusting in God.

Are you walking on your own? Do you need a crutch? Turn to God. Is He everything you need? Do you trust Him completely? Turn to God anyway. There is no other God! Turn to Him and He will carry you. When your feet fail, He will not.
