Devotions: Thanksgiving to Christmas

But now, thus says the Lord, your Creator, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel,
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name; you are Mine!
Isaiah 43:1 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

This is why Jesus came to earth. The first man and woman on earth sinned which created a barrier between us and God. We were no longer perfect, but sinful. We could no longer be in the presence of God, nor could we live in a perfect world, so the world was also cursed. Blood is the only way to pay for sin, so sacrifices were required to make people right before God, but no animal can undo the wrong we have done. Only the perfect blood of Jesus could do that. He came to redeem us from that curse, to reverse the wrong we had done. That began at the cross, but will be finished at the end of time. We all sin, and belief in Jesus does not change that unfortunately. Every sin is reprehensible to God and requires death, but we do not have to fear because He has redeemed us. He has made us His own. Instead of hiding in fear as Adam did, we can come confident to the throne of God to ask forgiveness, knowing that He is just to forgive. As we approach Christmas, remember why Jesus came. Allow that to influence your heart and walk. Allow that to carry Thanksgiving over to Christmas.
