Devotions: Christmas Prophet

The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet from among your countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
Deuteronomy 18:18 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

This is God speaking to Moses in the wilderness prophetically speaking of Jesus. Jesus was like Moses in that He spoke God’s words and delivered the people. Yet, Jesus is also God, not just a prophet. He is much greater than Moses in every way for He did everything perfectly. Jesus came up as a man from among the Israelites. He spoke God’s words of repentance and salvation to the people. He completely and perfectly obeyed His Father’s will. He is THE Prophet, and we need to heed what He says. Both His words in scripture and what we hear from Him now, we need to listen to and obey. Hardened hearts result in judgment, submitted hearts result in salvation and redemption. Listen to what He says, don’t turn a deaf ear. Let Christmas be a time of reawakening, of bringing you back to Him and rekindling your heart. Remember why He came and who He is.
