I
know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in
prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being
filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.
Philippians 4:12 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
His secret is contentment,
trust that God will provide. So often we think life will be better when we get
that new job, a better car, a bigger house, etc. We are not content with what
we have and where we are, not that seeking improvement is a bad thing, but we
need to be satisfied with what we have. The key to that is believing whole
heartedly that what we have, and where we are, is where God wants us. It is
trusting Him to provide, trusting in His supreme goodness and sovereignty. We
can have joy and contentment even in suffering if we put our hope in God and
rely on Him for what we need. We need to be grateful for what we have, rather
than unhappy about what we don’t have. Are you content? Ask God to help you be
grateful for what you have, and satisfied with where He has you.
