Therefore,
since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by
which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.
Hebrews 12:28-29 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
God’s kingdom, which we as
believers have received, is unshakeable because it is eternal. It has not been
created, nor does it change. It is stronger and more powerful than any kingdom
which has been made. No weapon formed against it can prosper. For these
reasons, it is unshakeable, and God has given it to us. He has made us heirs to
His immortal kingdom. For this reason, we should be eternally grateful. This
does not mean giving a passing thanks and then going about our business. It
should be a feeling and attitude so deep that it affects our lives. It is this
life altering gratitude which becomes an acceptable service and sacrifice to
God. That is what He desires from us, a heart changed by Him, willing to serve
Him out of reverence and adoration. We must also remember that He is not only
the Lamb of God but also the Lion of Judah. He can be both meek and terrifying,
kind and just. He is a jealous God who wants all of us, our whole hearted
devotion, not just our Sunday mornings. Are you grateful for the kingdom you
have received? Ask God to help you grasp what you have truly been given, to
have a heart devoted to serving Him out of love and awe.
