For
Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring
us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;
1 Peter 3:18 New American Standard
Bible (NASB) (emphasis added)
This is the greatest
unfairness of all time and it is called grace. Christ did not deserve to die.
He didn’t deserve to be punished. He never did anything wrong, not once, and yet
He died to pay for the sins of all humanity. He suffered more unfairly than any
other person in history, and He did it for us, so that we could experience His
grace and forgiveness. He died unfairly to give us a gift we could never
deserve. No matter what we think we have unfairly experienced, it is nothing
compared to what He experienced. And no amount of unfair suffering we
experience is greater than the unfair grace God freely offers to us. His grace
far outweighs any unfair treatment or suffering we endure. When you feel that
life is unfair, when you wonder “why me?”, remember grace. Remember the great
gift God has given you that you don’t deserve. Thank God for the unfairness you
experience at His expense.
