Devotions: The Great Exchange

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
Matthew 20:28 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He is God and His authority is above all, yet He did not come to make a conquest and gain slaves or servants. Instead, He came to serve us. This is the opposite of almost every ruler and leader on earth. He is the exception to the rule that authority corrupts. In Him there is no corruption, no pride, no selfishness. He is perfect and selfless. He loves us sacrificially. He died to pay our debt. That is what Easter is all about: Jesus coming to pay for our sins, to offer us salvation, to die in our place. We all deserve eternal death, but through Jesus we can receive eternal life. All we have to do is believe He is the Son of God, that He died to pay for our sins and came back to life, and surrender our lives to Him. It’s the greatest exchange: our sin for His righteousness, and it is ours for the taking. Will you?
