Devotions: The Light of the World

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Matthew 5:14-15 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Jesus is the Light of the world, but if we believe in Him then we will have the light of life and become children of the light. Like the moon, we reflect the light of the Son if we believe in Him because we have His light. But that light is not meant to be only for us. We need to let it shine for all to see. That is the purpose of light, to bring light to others. We need to let our faith shine out for others. Proverbs 4 says that the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn shining for all to see. The way we walk, how we walk, and where we walk is a testimony of what we believe and Who lives in us. We should not be embarrassed or shy about that, hiding it from the world. We need to let our lives show others the way to Jesus. We are made to be His light in the world. We are made to shine out for others, that is why we have His light. Take courage! Some will not like the light, but others will be drawn to it. We cannot reach those who are drawn by hiding. Remember Who you shine for. Remember why you shine. Let the world see Him working in you!
