Then
Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the
world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light
of life.”
John 8:12 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
There are many contrasts in
life: light and dark, good and evil, life and death, hot and cold. In some
cases there is also a “grey” area in between, but not always. When it comes to
God and the world, God is light and the world is darkness (because of sin.)
There is either light or dark. We have to choose to either walk in the light or
walk in the dark, there is no grey area here. God is light, sin is darkness. We
can’t partly walk in sin and walk in the light at the same time. The trick is
that with light comes life, but with darkness comes death. So when we choose
where we will walk, light or dark, we are ultimately making the choice between
life and death. We cannot walk in the dark and still have life. And if we are
to walk in the light and have life then we need to follow Christ. Just as we
cannot have life and walk in the darkness, we cannot walk in the light without
following Christ. He is the light, so
in order to walk in the light we have to walk in Him. We must choose between
living like the world, walking in the dark and gaining death, or living like
Christ, walking in the light and gaining life. Follow the Light of life!
