These things I have spoken
to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made
full.
John 15:11 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
“These things” Jesus spoke
about was the concept of being rooted in the true vine, of abiding in Him
continually and bearing His fruit, of being a true obedient disciple. Those are
the things that bring true joy, His kind of joy. The joy of the world
(happiness) does not last, it is not even that fulfilling. But God’s joy lasts
and is immeasurably satisfying. However, we cannot have His joy at all, let
alone fully, if we are not true disciples of His. We have to abide in Him, be
totally immersed in Him, delighting in obedience in everything, bearing His
fruit. Privilege comes with responsibility. We cannot have His joy while we are
disobedient, just as we cannot have peace with Him while we are rebellious.
It’s a package deal; His joy comes with obedience and abiding in Him.
Disobedience never brings joy. Disconnected relationships never bring joy. He
has given us the key to a joyful life, but we have to use the key to unlock the
door. Do you delight in obeying God? Do you seek to be saturated with Him? Are
you firmly rooted in His truth? Let your joy be made full!
