Now
may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance.
The Lord be with you all!
2 Thessalonians 3:16 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
God is a God of peace. It is
a defining attribute of His nature. This type of peace does not refer to a lack
of war but of peace with Himself, inner tranquility that comes from a good
relationship with Him. There will always be conflict and war between the
warring spiritual forces in the world and within each of us. We will not be
able to have peace from that in this life. Yet God still promises to give us
peace, a peace within in spite of our circumstances. Even in the midst of conflict
and even war, we can have peace by knowing that we are reconciled to God, by
having a right relationship with Him, by striving for unity and harmony with
others. Of course there will be times when we need to have conflict with
others, calling out lies and heresies, but if the issue is not a matter of
salvation or doctrinal importance, we need to have the humility to not prove
that we are right or fight for what we want or prefer. We need to seek to have
God’s peace in fellowship with Him and with others. Then we can have an inner
peace that no amount of charms, chants or secular meditation can rival. Seek to
have God’s peace in the midst of your circumstances.
