Who is your boss? Not everyone has an employer, either
because they don’t work or they work for themselves. Not everyone is a child
living in a parent’s home. If we don’t fit in to one of these categories, who
is our boss? Is it possible to truly be your own boss and not be under anyone’s
authority?
Many people strive to become their own boss, on and off the
job. Pretty much every teenager has that goal in mind, to one day be their own
boss and not have to listen to anyone, to rule their own lives. But even if a
person becomes totally independent, working for themselves and living alone,
they are still under someone’s authority.
For one thing, we are all subject to the government, to obey
its laws and rulers, and even if we lived in an anarchist/utopian country where
there is no law or ruler, we would still be under God’s authority. Whether we
acknowledge His Lordship or not, He is still the King over all kings, Lord over
all lords.
Romans 13:1 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
Every person is to be in subjection to the governing
authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist
are established by God.
1 Timothy 6:15-16 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings
and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in
unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be
honor and eternal dominion! Amen.
God is above all. He is greater than all, smarter than all,
more powerful than all. He has all power and dominion. No one can beat Him, no
one can escape Him. No one has authority which is not given to them by God.
Every king, president, warlord, etc. is still under God’s authority. Many of
them do not acknowledge it, but one day they will answer to Him.
2 Corinthians 5:10 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to
what he has done, whether good or bad.
That goes for every person as well. We are all responsible
for what we do, and one day we will answer for that. Even if we do get to the
point where we don’t live with our parents, we don’t have an employer, we are
still under God. He created us, He is ruler over everything here, and He
established the order of life. We answer to Him.
That is why so many people try to disprove God’s existence.
They don’t want to be accountable for their actions. They want to be able to
live however they want without feeling guilty. And many do just that. They
ignore any proof that God exists, any moral laws He has created or inspired,
and proceed to live life their way. They think that because no one stops them,
that they have gotten away with it, but that isn’t true. The time is coming.
We have a choice: we can either ignore God, be our own boss,
live however we want and face the consequences in the next life, or we can
acknowledge God as our “boss”, live how He requires, and not have to fear the
coming judgment.
Who is your boss?
