People talk about building a life, a family or even a
business. These things are all important, and building them correctly is vital.
So how do we do that? What does it take to build a life worth living? What does
it take to build a healthy family? What does it take to build a prosperous
business?
3 Key Elements To Building
Anything Worth Having
Proverbs 24:3-4 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
By wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
And by knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.
And by understanding it is established;
And by knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.
These two verses contain three things that are essential to
building anything that is important.
1-Wisdom
The foundation of any “building” project is wisdom. If we
don’t have God’s wisdom, what we build will not be “up to code” and will fall
or fail when the storm comes. We must have His wisdom, His instruction, in
order to build correctly.
Daniel 2:20 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
Daniel said, “Let the name of God be blessed forever and
ever, For
wisdom and power belong to Him.”
1 Corinthians 3:10 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
According to the grace of God which was given to me,
like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it.
But each man must be careful how he builds on it.
We need to begin wisely, with God’s wisdom, which only comes
from the Bible. No other wisdom, no matter how good it sounds, will hold up. It
doesn’t matter what we are building, God knows best.
2-Understanding
Whatever project we are working on, once it is built it
needs to be established and that can only come through understanding. This
means more than just comprehension, but carries with it notes of discernment,
consideration, and attention. It is the kind of understanding that a person has
when they are empathetic to another’s feelings or needs. We need to be aware,
attentive, to what and who are around us and act accordingly. Without that,
whatever we are building cannot be established, it may exist, but it will not
thrive.
Job 12:13 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
With Him are wisdom and might;
To Him belong counsel and understanding.
To Him belong counsel and understanding.
Psalm 111:10 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His praise endures forever.
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His praise endures forever.
3-Knowledge
The final requirement for any building project is to fill
it. A business may be built and established, but unless it is filled it will
not profit. A family may be started and underway, but unless it is filled with
richness it will lack vitality. A life may have a good foundation and on the
road to success, but without knowledge it will fall to the side.
Proverbs 14:6 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none,
But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding.
But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding.
One would think that knowledge should come before wisdom and
understanding, but it is actually the opposite. Knowledge without a wise and
understanding heart stays in the head and puffs up the heart. It will never be
useful except to exalt self. But if a person has a wise heart that is humble
and attuned to God, that is open to understanding others rather than focused on
being right, knowledge will be the fuel that feeds the fire. That is why scoffers
(one who mocks) will not find wisdom when they seek it, they may find knowledge
but it will not produce wisdom because of the arrogance and coldness of their
hearts. A person of understanding will use knowledge wisely.
Colossians 1:9-10 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
For this reason also, since the day we heard of
it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled
with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
so that you will walk in a
manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects,
bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
True knowledge stems from an intimate knowledge of God. That
is where wisdom comes from, desiring to know and serve God and it will use
knowledge for that purpose, it will produce that richness. There is no greater
thing than to know God personally and intimately, and if we do, everything we
build will be filled with the richness of God which no earthly thing can rival.
What are you building? Is it a family? A business? A life? A
friendship? Build it on these three things and it will prosper, maybe not
financially, but eternally.
