Devotions: Compassionate Surrender

For the Lord will not reject forever, For if He causes grief, Then He will have compassion According to His abundant lovingkindness. For He does not afflict willingly Or grieve the sons of men.
Lamentations 3:31-33 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

God does discipline mankind. We mess up, we rebel, so He corrects us like a loving Father. The world in general rebels against God and He passes judgment like a just Judge. Life is not always easy, but we need to remember that the bad does not last forever. He will allow us to suffer, but He will also restore us abundantly. It is also important to remember that He does not discipline or punish because He enjoys it. He’s not sitting in heaven gleefully squashing ants. It grieves Him possibly more than it grieves us. He feels our pain, but He allows it for our benefit. We may never know why we suffer, but we don’t need to. The important thing in all of it is to submit to God, surrender our lives to Him and trust Him. He will bring us through if we will allow Him to have our hearts and follow Him.
