Devotions: New Compassion

This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:21-23 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The book of Lamentations was written by the prophet Jeremiah and reflected his rather depressed outlook on life, but in the middle of the book is one of the most encouraging chapters in the Bible. He takes a break from his depression to praise God and express implicit trust in Him. Jeremiah shared in the affliction of Israel, but he knew the cure. Trust in God. He intentionally brought to mind God’s mercy and love which caused him to hope in the Lord. God’s compassion and love do not fail. Even in the midst of discipline He still has love and compassion. He is always faithful! What are you going through? Has your suffering caused you to doubt God’s love for you? Remember all the ways He has blessed and provided for you in the past. Remind yourself of His love and allow yourself to hope in the Lord.
