Devotions: Compassionate Vindication

Your name, O Lord, is everlasting,
Your remembrance, O Lord, throughout all generations.
For the Lord will judge His people
And will have compassion on His servants.
Psalm 135:13-14 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

This psalm recounts God’s wonderful works and contrasts Him to the idols of the world. There is no God like Him! He destroyed the king of every nation that rose against them in His good time. He gave Israel the land of other nations to be theirs forever. The word translated judge can also mean vindicate. This verse is not saying that God is having compassion because He has judged their sins but that He will plead their case, He will vindicate them because of His compassion for them. He will not allow them to remain captive for long. He will right the wrongs done to them. The Bible promises that God will right every wrong, that He will vindicate His people. His compassion for us demands it. Are you waiting for vindication? Trust in His compassion. It will come.
