The Way of Bees

Hanging from my house are two containers which attract bees (by bees I mean yellow jackets, not honey bees). Both have similar shape and the exact same contents, but very different purposes. Both offer promises of sweetness, but one gives life while the other brings death. One is sincere, the other a trap. It is interesting that currently there are 4 bees in the trap, but only one at the feeder (note this was not meant to be a bee feeder…) In a manner of speaking, more have been deceived than believed the truth.

2020: Clear Vision or Hindsight?

The number or phrase “2020” can refer to a number of things vision related. Physically, it means having perfect vision. Another phrase, “hindsight is 2020”, refers to the idea that we see or understand a situation better looking back on it than we did in the moment. Last year was expected to be a year of clear vision (because of the number) and many were disappointed at the massive curve balls thrown our way. We definitely didn’t see that coming! But I think it was a year of clear vision, not because the path was laid out before us clearly, but because it cleared our vision.

Deuteronomy 4:35, 39 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord, He is God; there is no other besides Him…Therefore know today, and take it to your heart, that the Lord, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other.

Belted With Truth

Truth. Something once so fundamental, now so subjective. It seems that no one can agree what truth is any more. Truth has become whatever anyone wants it to be, but it hasn’t always been that way. And it shouldn’t be. Truth was once something hard and fast, written in stone as it were. In a way it is, for it is written in the Bible which is not stone but the living Word of God. God does not change so His Word and, therefore, His truth do not change. God’s truth should be the basis of life, but how do we wear that as a belt?

True Virtue: Wisdom

Wisdom, in its barest sense, is knowledge applied. Having an abundance of knowledge is simply being smart, but it is of no benefit if that knowledge is not used and applied. Many are considered wise, regardless of religion or culture. There is a fine line between what the Bible calls wisdom and the wisdom of the world. But God clearly says there is a difference.

True Virtue: Love

“Hey, what’s so important? Whacha got that’s worth living for?
True love.
Did you hear that? You could not ask for a more noble cause than that.
Sonny, true love is the greatest thing in the world…”

“And wove, twue wove, will follow you foweve.”

The idea of true love is rampant in our ideology. Every girl dreams of a fairytale romance where Prince Charming comes to her rescue and they live a life of bliss. But real life rarely (if ever) happens that way. Is the reason because she didn’t find the right person? Or is there another explanation?

True Freedom

What is true freedom and where does it come from?

John 8 (NASB)
31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
