It is good to give thanks to the Lord
And to sing praises to Your
name, O Most High;
To declare
Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your faithfulness by
night,
Psalm 92:1-2 New American Standard
Bible 1995
This psalm was written as a song for the Sabbath. It was meant for corporate worship. It is good to give thanks to the Lord. The word good literally means pleasant or agreeable, but used as a noun it can also mean beneficial. Here I believe that both definitions apply. It is pleasant and agreeable to give thanks and sing praises to God. When we do it whole heartedly and genuinely it is even enjoyable. But I believe there is benefit to doing it as well. Declaring God’s love, mercy and faithfulness day and night not only spread the good news about God and glorifies Him, but it also serves to encourage our hearts and those around us. When we are struggling or going through trials, it helps to be reminded of what God has done, or to hear what He is doing in the lives of others. It strengthens our faith and brings peace and joy to our hearts and souls. Worship should be a part of our daily lives. It gives life to our souls, uplifts our minds and drives away the clouds of darkness. Worship literal is a part of spiritual warfare because the enemy cannot be in the presence of God’s praises. It drives him away.
Do you enjoy giving thanks and singing praises to God? How much effort do you put into worship? Make a point this week to spend time each day in worship, giving thanks to God and praising Him for His love, mercy and faithfulness.
