You will seek Me and find Me when
you search for Me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13 New American Standard
Bible 1995
This was part of Jeremiah’s
prophecy to the exiles in Babylon.
The Israelites had turned from God and paid the price. They were conquered and
those who survived were enslaved and deported. But their captivity would not be
forever. It would last 70 years and then they would return. Not only would they
return to Israel,
but they would return to God. They would seek Him as they had not done before. They
would turn from their idols and return to the One True God. Not only would they
seek Him, but they would find Him when they sought for Him with all their
heart. Many people seek for God to do what they want, or to fulfill a passing
question or need, but they do not desire Him. They do not seek Him with
everything they are. They are still focused on themselves. God can only be
found when we seek for Him with everything we are, when He is the object of our
desire. He is not a genie, a tyrant or an overindulgent parent. He is God, our
Father and the Author of Life. He loves us and created us for relationship with
Him, but He also needs to be obeyed and respected. He is patient and gracious,
but He is also just. Disobedience, rebellion and treason (which includes all
sin) will be dealt with, yet not in cruelty or even indifference, but as a
loving Father teaching and guiding His children.
Do you seek for God? Is He
the object of your desire? Have you found Him? Continue to seek deeper and
deeper relationship with Him so that your desire for Him continues to increase.
