The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
The Lord has clothed and girded Himself with
strength;
Indeed, the world is firmly
established, it will not be moved.
Your throne is established
from of old;
You are from everlasting.
Psalm 93:1-2 New American Standard
Bible 1995
There is so much foundational
truth in these two verses. God reigns.
He is the King supreme. There is none higher, mightier or with greater
authority, nor is there any who can defy or defeat Him. He is clothed with majesty. The word majesty could also be
translated glory or splendor. He is arrayed, not majestically, but with
majesty, not gloriously, but with glory. It doesn’t describe Him, it is Him. He
is glory and majesty. He wears them like a robe. He is the standard for glory
and majesty. He has clothed and girded
Himself with strength. God is more powerful and stronger than any other
force or being, but this is only possible because He made Himself that way. If
His strength were given to Him by another then that “other” would be stronger
than He. But God has no maker. He is
the Maker. He is the beginning, foundation and source of all strength. Nothing
has strength that did not get it from Him. The
world is established and cannot be moved. The world, the universe, was
established because of this power of God. He has the power to create and
sustain indefinitely. It exists because He says, and will not crumble or end
until He deems. It cannot be moved even though it is suspended in space. He is
actively holding all creation together. His
throne is established from of old. He is King, and He has always been King.
His Kingdom is everlasting. It has no beginning or end. No other kingdom is
greater or older or more powerful. Like the world, because He established His
throne it cannot be revoked by any but Himself. He is from everlasting. He has no beginning or end. He simply is.
Because of this He is not bound by time. He does not age. He does not die.
Are you in awe of God? Do you
understand who He truly is, not just who you imagine that He is? Which of these
truths means the most to you and why? Take some time to go out and look at
creation. Look at the night sky. God made, sustains and holds it all together.
And yet He also made you specifically as you are for Himself. Let that
overwhelm you.
