Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear;
you are more valuable than many sparrows.
Luke 12:7 New American Standard Bible
1995
This is one of the teachings
of Jesus. He warned about the Pharisees who care more about man’s approval than
God’s, and do not live what they preach. We should instead fear God who knows
our hearts and deepest thoughts, not just what we put on social media. We
should not fear those who have no power over us. Sure, they can kill us, but
they can do nothing to our souls. Their “power” is only for this short life,
but cannot affect eternity. God, on the other hand, has the power to determine
our future. He is the one we should revere and obey. Sparrows were some of the
most worthless animals (monetarily) in that time. They weren’t even worth half
a cent. Yet God knew all of them, and took note when each one died. This same
God knows how many hairs are on each person’s head. If God cares enough to know
us that intimately, He cares enough to hear our concerns and take care of our
needs. That does not mean that He will make our lives perfect and painless.
That is not possible in this sinful world, but He is with us and will help and
take care of us. He cares about us intensely and knows us each intimately. He
is deeply invested in each of us, personally. We can take comfort in the fact
that He loves us more than we can fathom. He is here to walk with us through
the valley and help us grow and mature as the best Father would. We can
confidently come to Him with every need and concern. If He cares enough to
count our hair, nothing is too small to be beneath His notice. He wants us to
come to Him, to confide in Him, about any and every thing that weighs on our
minds and hearts.
You are worth more, much
more, than a sparrow. You are so valuable and precious that God sent His Son to
die for you so that He could have a relationship with you, to save you from the
debt of your sin. Will you accept His love? Will you give your life to Him?
Will you trust Him with your every need and concern.
