Blessed be
the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every
spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
Ephesians 1:3 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
Blessed can have a couple
different meanings based on context. When it says to bless God it means to
praise Him. When it says that He has blessed us, it means we have been given a
gift. When it says we are blessed, or “blessed are those who…,” it means we
have joy and contentment in our relationship with God. Praise God because He
has given us every spiritual gift to be found in heaven through Christ. Because
of Jesus’ sacrifice and because we believe in Him and His ability and power to
cover our sins, we have access to those gifts. It is because of what Jesus has
done for us that we receive that blessing. Because of what we have received,
because of our blessed state, we should praise God! This verse is calling us to
realize the wonderful relationship we have with God and express our gratitude
for it. He has done so much for us! This whole chapter is recounting the
blessings of redemption we have because of our relationship with Jesus and I
would encourage you to read it now.
How have you been blessed?
What specific spiritual gifts have you been given? How can you praise God for
all that you have?
