Devotions: He Chose YOU!

just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.

Ephesians 1:4 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

This verse is finishing the sentence we studied yesterday; “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ…” So in the same way that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing because of Jesus, He also chose us before the beginning of time for us to be with and like Him. This refers to what is called “election.” God chose us, just like He chose the Israelites to be His chosen people. The reason is no cause of our own. We in no way deserve to be chosen. It is a gift called grace. Why God chose some and not others no one knows. Maybe He knew that some would reject Him and never change so He didn’t choose them. All we know is that God is good and just, and so are all of His actions. We also know that we do have a choice. We don’t have to believe in Him.

If you know someone who is not saved, don’t lose heart. If they are alive, there is still time. We don’t know who He has chosen, so they may still give their lives to Him and there is no time to lose in sharing this good news with them. If they are no longer living, know that they had a choice. Their lack of salvation was not because God wouldn’t have them. The Bible clearly states that we have a choice. Rest assured that God’s will is best and it cannot be thwarted by any. You can also rest assured that those who are meant to be saved will, regardless of how much you mess up. We just do our best to follow God’s will and leave the rest up to Him.

Regardless of anything else, if you are saved, if you believe that Jesus is God, died for your sins and came back to life, then you were chosen by God before creation. It was His will for you to be saved and set apart for Him, for you to begin the process of becoming like Him, a process He will perfect and complete. The point here is not to debate who is chosen and why, but to praise God in gratitude for being chosen! That is the point to focus on! Do you grasp that? God chose YOU, because He loves YOU and wants YOU! Before He created anything, He planned to make YOU so that He could have a relationship with YOU. Let that sink in and praise Him!
