Devotions: Who is in Control?

Trust in the Lord forever,
For in God the Lordwe have an everlasting Rock.

Isaiah 26:4 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

We can and should feel safe and confident in the One True God for all time. Why? Because in Him, the repetition of His name establishes His supreme deity, is an eternal refuge. He always has been and always will be, the only eternal being that was not created. He just is. He is the foundation of everything, literally. Everything had its source of creation and origin from Him, including truth itself. He is also more powerful than anything else, therefore He is the obvious refuge, for none can defeat Him. He is sovereign over all and in control. Nothing happens that takes Him by surprise. Nothing and no one can get the upper hand. He wins every arm wrestling match. Yet for all His authority, He is perfectly good and loving. There is no cruelty, malice or even indifference in Him. What He does, He does because it is best. He is incapable of being selfish. We can have peace of mind if He is our God because of all of this. Like a young child resting secure in Daddy’s arms, we can rest assured that we are in the most capable hands. Trust is more than letting someone do something. It is confidently relying on Him to take care of it, giving up complete control of our lives. That is the hard part. We want to be in control, but as long as we try we will be stressed and distressed. We were never made to be in control. He was. Until we relinquish what is rightfully His, we will never have peace. Do you truly trust God? Is He your refuge? Ask Him to help you build confidence in Him and take steps to rely on Him and let go of control.
