In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice;
In the morning I will
order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.
Psalm 5:3 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
Any time during the day is a
good time to seek God, but morning is one of the best for a number of reasons.
For one thing, if we get up early, in the peace and quiet, we have fewer
distractions. Our minds are more at ease and open. We don’t have the thoughts
and worries of what has already happened during the day to weigh us down or
distract us. It also helps set a good tone for the rest of the day, because we
have spent our first moments seeking the Lord. It is like building a solid
foundation for each day. I think this verse also makes the point that it is a
priority. By stating he will seek God in the morning, he is establishing that
as his top priority, the first thing he does in the day. It gives God
precedence over the rest of his day and life. Whatever happens, he will seek
God first. It is also important to
note that not only is the psalmist praying and seeking God, but he is also
listening. He is not the endless chatter box that tells God everything that is
wrong and all he wants and then leaves. It is a two way conversation. Of course
he talks to God about what he thinks, feels and needs, but he also listens to
see what God has to say. He waits for God to answer him showing his trust in
God’s goodness, will and power. He makes God a priority but also acknowledges
God’s love for him. It is a loving, functional relationship that goes both
ways. Do you seek God? Is He your top priority? Do you trust in His loving
relationship and power to help you? Seek Him in the morning and be blessed!
