Devotions: Perfected in Weakness

And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

2 Corinthians 12:9

~

How is it that power is perfected in weakness? It is because when we are weak we trust more in God. We have to, so His power has more control over our lives. It is in our weakness that we realize we need His power. The more we trust in Him, the more opportunity His power has to work. It is by His grace that we are saved and healed. It is all we need in our imperfection. We cannot heal ourselves, earn our salvation or His delight or reward, or find healing, salvation or blessing elsewhere. It is only by His grace. In our weakness we become aware of our insufficiency and our need for His grace. That is why Paul boasted, or gloried, in his weakness, because that is when the power of Christ was most active in him. When you feel like you are not good enough, like you just can’t possibly go on any longer, like you are too distant from God, remember that this is where your strength lies; in the realization of where you truly are, powerless and in need. Turn to the power of the cross. Trust in Christ to carry you, to heal you, to perfect you, and He will do it.
