Love With All Your Mind

What is in the mind? What does it control and apply to? Really our minds control everything, physically and mentally. In a way it is the basis of our being. What we think affects how we feel which affects how we act. It is the root. So how do we love God with all of our minds?

Romans 8:5-8 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

We pursue what we desire. We become what we think about. It is imperative that we have our minds set on the things of God, otherwise we will live for the flesh (that is the old sinful lifestyle) and cannot please God. There are only two choices; God or the flesh and the flesh leads to death. There is no middle ground.

If we are to love God with all of our mind, and the mind set on flesh cannot please Him, then we need to set our minds on the things of God. That is how we love God. Our minds need to be focused on everything that is of Him.

Philippians 4:8 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

These are the things that should be on our mind, the things of the Spirit. These are the kind of thoughts that please God.

Job 38:36 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Who has put wisdom in the innermost being
Or given understanding to the mind?
Psalm 16:7-8 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
I will bless the Lord who has counseled me;
Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.
I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Psalm 26:2 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Examine me, O Lord, and try me;
Test my mind and my heart.

God is the One who made us, our minds. He gave us the capacity to think and reason, to understand. We need to seek Him to instruct our minds, to examine them for ways they are set on the flesh so that we can correct them. If we have our minds set on God, if He not only occupies our thoughts but is the basis for our motives and attitudes, then we will not be shaken when our world falls apart or the enemy attacks us. We need to seek to have minds that are set on God, the Unshakeable, that are pure and righteous. If our minds are righteous then we will be righteous.

What is on your mind? What occupies your thoughts? What motivates you? Ask God to examine your thoughts and motives, and to help you correct what is not right.
