As in water face reflects face,
So the heart of man reflects man.
So the heart of man reflects man.
Proverbs 27:19 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
What do you see when you look
in the mirror? Yourself. As with a pool of calm water, a mirror, or anything
shiny, will show a reflection of oneself. In the same way our hearts reflect
ourselves. Biblically, the “heart” refers to the mind; our appetites,
conscience, moral character, thoughts, sometimes also emotions and passions. We
can become better acquainted with who and what we truly are by paying attention
to our motives, attitudes, actions, thoughts and behaviors. Once we have
considered and examined ourselves, we need to compare the results with Christ.
Then we will know not only who and what we are but also who and what we should
be. This should all be done with prayer, asking for God’s revelation, because
it is possible to examine ourselves and see incorrectly, to imagine ourselves
better than we truly are. Once we see the truth, and the difference, we need to
then ask God help us bridge the gap, to change who we are into who we should
be. It is arrogant to reflect and examine if we are not willing to do anything
about what we find, if we are not willing to change. Take some time today to
reflect, to ask God to examine you. Ask Him to make you humble so that you will
be able to make the necessary changes.
