Made for a Purpose

What were we created to do? Do we have a purpose? These are questions people have been asking for millennia. We all want to have a purpose, to believe that we were made for something important, something special. We long to be of value. Yet, so much of the world’s philosophies teach us the opposite. Evolution teaches us that we are the product of chance. Post-modernism teaches us that we only matter to ourselves. Our society teaches us that life is of no inherent value. Is that true? Is that really all there is to life?

Ephesians 2:10 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

The answer is “NO.” We were made, each individual, for a purpose. God knew each of us before the world was formed and planned the gifts and talents He would give us and how He wanted us to use them. He designed each of us specifically for a reason, as part of His great plan.

Psalm 139:13-16 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.

He knows everything about us, and made us as we are for a reason. We all have a purpose to serve Him in some special way, all coming together to form His Church which serves the world as a witness for Him. We all have a special job to do which only we can do. Sometimes we don’t step up when we should and someone else has to take our place, but they can’t do it as we could. We have a place God planned for us wherever we are that no one else can fill.

Romans 12:4-6 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly
1 Corinthians 12:18-21 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. If they were all one member, where would the body be? But now there are many members, but one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

Wherever you are, God has a purpose for you. He led you to that place for a reason. Maybe you are there because you are running away from God. Maybe you are chasing sin instead. He can still use you there. He knew you would go there and He has made a plan for you. Ask Him how He will use you. He can make your situation turn out for good. Trust Him and His plan.
