Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 New
American Standard Bible (NASB)
I used to think this verse
meant that if I delighted in God I would get what I wanted, but that is not
what this verse says. It is kind of a trick question, because if we are
delighting in God, He will be the desire of our hearts. That is the point. We only
get what we truly desire if we desire God. Nothing else will satisfy because
our hearts were made to long for Him. In this, though, we see God’s love and
faithfulness. He willingly gives us what we truly need and long for. In fact,
He longs to give it to us. Everything we chase and seek after, everything we
think we want, is just a lie, a delusion. In truth, that longing we each feel
in our hearts can only be satisfied with God. If we will just delight ourselves
in God, if we will just seek after Him, we will be truly satisfied. We will get
what we want and not regret it. What do you delight it? Is God your desire?
