When my anxious thoughts multiply within me,
Your consolations delight my soul.
Your consolations delight my soul.
Psalm 94:19 New
American Standard Bible (NASB)
It always seems to go that
way doesn’t it? When we have an anxious thought, it usually turns into many. One
thought or feeling leads to another until we are overrun with them. Fear is
contagious and, as with sin, it spreads into every area of our lives if we don’t
deal with it. Where do we turn when we begin to feel anxious or worried? To
God. The word consolations here
refers to God actively comforting His people, healing and restoring as a mother
does her child. It makes me think of when I was little and hurt my knee when I
fell. My mom would carry me to the house, bandage my wounds, and hold me. That same
tender care a mother gives her child is how God deals with us. When we are
anxious, when cares and worries bring us down, God does not scold or condemn,
but rather comforts us. If we turn to Him, His consolations with delight our
souls. Have you experienced this comfort? Will you turn to God to be comforted
when you are worried?
