Devotions: Sensible Behavior

Likewise urge the young men to be sensible;
Titus 2:6 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Young men are charged with the task of being sensible. It seems like a rather short and simple command compared with the others, but it is no small task and is the root of most character flaws and sins. The Greek word for sensible literally means to be of sound mind or temperate and self controlled. The root words are “to save” and “the mind.” If a young man can learn to be serious and rational, to be self controlled in every area of life, then he will avoid the pitfalls and snares that most fall prey to and will not nee to be instructed how to behave when he is older. If he can learn to “save his mind,” he will save his life. This goes for all of us. If we are sensible, not controlled by our emotions, desires or appetites, we will behave appropriately and avoid many of the problems we have later in life. What do you need to do to “save your mind”?
