Devotions: An Appropriate Attitude

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and, being made in the likeness of men.
Philippians 2:5-7 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Another way that we can imitate Christ is by having the same attitude and purpose that He does. This Christ-like attitude is one of humility. Christ is God, yet He did not strive for that equality. He did not demand nor fight for His right. Instead, He humbled Himself completely through obedience as a slave. Let me repeat that: He is God yet He made Himself a slave to God the Father. Out of everyone who has ever lived He had every right not to do that. But He didn’t. That is the difference between Jesus and satan. Jesus is God who made Himself a servant. Satan was a servant who tried to make himself God. As a result Jesus was glorified and satan was condemned. We imitate God by being humble and forgoing our rights. We imitate satan by demanding our rights and thinking we deserve better. Who are you imitating?
