Therefore
be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:15-16 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Therefore is always a key
word in scripture, denoting that what comes after is based on what came before.
Paul is telling them to be careful how they walk because of the destruction of
worldly living and the deceptive words of false teachers. Eventually, all of
our deeds will be exposed by the true Light of Christ for what they are. We
need to be careful what we do so that when the Light shines on us we will not
be ashamed. We need to be wise, prudent, cautious, intentional. No careless
word will go unjudged. No sin will go unpunished. We need to make the most of
our time and not waste a single moment. We don’t know which will be our last,
or the last of someone we could minister to. Every second needs to count. We
need to be intentional. These times are evil. Sin abounds. We cannot be too
cautious. We don’t want to be led astray, nor do we want to be found hypocrites
or liars. Be careful how you walk.
