For,
“The one who desires life, to
love and see good days,
Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
He must turn away from evil and do good;
He must seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
And His ears attend to their prayer,
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
He must seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
And His ears attend to their prayer,
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
1 Peter 3:10 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
The prerequisite for having
true life (not just physically being alive), love and good days is watching
what we say. Our words reveal what is in our hearts, whether we seek good or
evil, whether we are righteous or wicked, whether we seek peace or conflict. These
attitudes are evident in our words, showing what we really believe and desire.
Many who call themselves Christians do not commit heinous crimes, but they seek
their own pleasure and fulfillment instead of seeking God. They are self
motivated which means they have put themselves above God. They do not seek
peace with God because they have not put away the things He hates. As a result,
God will not hear their prayers and He will not be for them. The Bible says He
never abandons us, but He does not always fight for us. Living like that brings
evil on us because we are living outside of what God has required, outside of
His boundaries. People like that don’t look evil, we wouldn’t notice it through
flagrant sin, but their words will show where their heart is. What do your
words say about you? Do you listen to what you say so you know where your heart
is? Ask God to reveal your heart to you and help you change.
