Devotions: Full of Light

The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness. If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.
Luke 11:34-36 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The people were questioning Jesus, demanding a sign to prove that He was right. Instead, He demanded of them a sign to prove that they truly believed.  We prove what we believe by what comes out of us. If we are filled with His light, we will shine as He does, but if we are filled with darkness we cannot shine. The eye is likened to the mind (reasoning/judgment/understanding), if we are filled with evil, our understanding even of God will be wrong and our actions will follow suit. We have to make sure that we have the Spirit and understand the Word correctly so that we can shine as He does. We cannot shine while we sin. We cannot shine if we hate or have bitterness or pride or selfishness. We have to have God, we have to be filled with His light, in order to have His light shine out from us. Is your “eye” clear? Are you filled with His light? Can others see your light shine out?
