Devotions: The Most Satisfying Fruit

I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
John 15:5 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Jesus loved parables and similes. It helps us understand what our finite minds cannot grasp. In the same way that grapes grow on branches that are fed from the main vine, so we can produce fruit if we are growing from the main vine, Jesus. The key is that we have to abide in Him. We have to be permanently and continually connected to and drawing from Him. We can’t be partly of Him and partly of the world. We can’t worship Him but live for ourselves. It has to be total and complete surrender and immersion. We have to truly give our lives to Him, not just say we believe and go to church on Sundays. It has to be a belief that transforms our lives and consumes us. That is how we abide, and that is how we produce godly fruit. We can’t bear godly fruit if we are not being godly, if we are not trusting Him and living like Him. We bear fruit that resembles who we live like: God or the world. We might be able to pass off as being loving, joyful etc., but it won’t be genuine if we do it apart from Him, and everyone will be able to tell the difference. The only way that we can have real, fruit-bearing life is to seek Him in everything, to immerse our lives in Him, to be totally consumed by Him. Abide in the Vine and be fruitful!

  1. Amen! Amen! Amen!
Nicely said, and so very true.
I'm always reminded that "you will know them by their fruit" when I see actions that are worldly.
