When Jesus
went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they
were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.
Mark
6:34 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
The priests and scribes were
supposed to be the spiritual leaders, shepherds if you will, of the Jews, but
they were more like harsh school masters. The people were spiritually lost and
hungry. Jesus couldn’t bear to leave them that way. Even though He was trying
to get to a place of seclusion, His compassion moved Him to minister to the
people, teaching them about God. He willingly fed their thirsty souls, giving
them living water from the stream of Life. It is not only physical disparity
which inspires His compassion, but spiritual as well, possibly more so. He
cares about the heart because that is eternal. Where is your concern? Do you
care about the souls of others? Are you willing to lead them to the Shepherd?
