Devotions: Fatherly Compassion

So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
Luke 15:20 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

This is another parable Jesus told to prove a point. It is the story of a man whose son took his share of the inheritance and squandered it. When the money ran out he couldn’t find a job that paid enough to even buy food or lodging. Eventually he got so low that he decided to go back and ask his father for a job (because he didn’t think he would be accepted back as a son), at least then he would have food. But before he arrived at his home, his father saw him and ran to meet him. The son repented, the father forgave him and threw a party to celebrate his return. That is how God is with us. It doesn’t matter what we have done or how far we have run from God, He will always take us back, not as a servant, but as a child, and all heaven will rejoice! God will not condemn if you repent. Return to Him and experience His compassion!
