And Jesus
called His disciples to Him, and said, “I feel compassion for the people,
because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat; and
I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way.”
Matthew
15:32 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
Some may read this and think
that it was the people’s fault for not having provided for themselves, that
Jesus could have used that for a moral lesson to always be prepared or
something, but He didn’t. Compassion was more important to Him. He cared more
about the fact that they stayed with Him as long as they could because they
were hungry for the Word than about their lack of preparation. As with Mary and
Martha, the desire to be with Him is praised above anything practical. It is
also important to note that He was not ashamed of His emotions, rather He
openly acknowledged them. He cared more about the truth, and the heart, than
about His appearance or ego. Ask God to help you correct your priorities, so
that you place value on the things that are important to Him.
