So now, we have our armor, we are ready for battle, what do
we do? As I covered earlier, half of the battle is prayer, but what else? When
we are in battle what do we do? Is there any one specific action we are
commanded to do in battle?
Stand
Galatians 5:1 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
It was for freedom that Christ set us free;
therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of
slavery.
The main part of any battle is to stand one’s ground, to not
give way to the enemy. In the same way, we must stand our ground in faith. We
must stand against the enemy and not give way to temptation and sin. We must
not allow ourselves to fall into the slavery of sin again. As Christians, we
are now free from slavery to sin, so we must use that freedom to fight against
sin so that we are not taken slaves again.
Romans 11:20 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but
you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear;
We need to stay in the faith and not be swayed by differing
views and opinions. We need to not give way to the false ideas and teachers
which will try to lure us away from the truth.
1 Corinthians 16:13 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act
like men, be strong.
We must use our spiritual armor, and the Spirit who gives us
power, to stand firm against attack. Part of that is being alert. If we are not
paying attention, we will be attacked when we are not prepared. Remember that
the enemy is crafty and sneaky. He rarely engages in full frontal attacks. It
is usually guerilla warfare and ambush tactics which he uses. We need to be
strong and not weak, resolute and not wavering.
Ephesians 6:10 New American
Standard Bible (NASB)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the
strength of His might.
It is through God and the Spirit that we are able to do all
of this. It is His strength which keeps us firm, it is His power which we use
to fight. We cannot do it on our own. We need Him to wage this battle. We need
to be constantly in prayer, constantly in the Word (if not reading, thinking
about it), constantly alert in the Spirit. Life is not game, neither is war. We
must take this seriously or we will be overtaken. If we are not alert and
aware, if we are not ready, if we are not keeping our line to God open, we will
not be able to stand.
Are you ready? Do you have your armor? Are you in the Word
so you can stand your ground?
