Devotions: Blessings of Tuning In

How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!
Lord, they walk in the light of Your countenance.

Psalm 89:15 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The joyful sound referred to here is the sound of the trumpets, usually heard at the time of the feasts, which were a form of rejoicing to God. It was a way of letting people know it was time to come together to rejoice! We are blessed if we hear that sound and recognize it as a call to worship. Most of us don’t observe the old testament feasts, and we don’t hear trumpets anymore. But we can listen in our hearts for the call to praise God. We need to be in tune with God’s voice so that we can hear Him calling us to rejoice in Him. That is what it means to walk in the light of His countenance: to always be aware of His presence and seeking His face. If we do that we will be able to hear the trumpet call and we will be ready to praise Him. That trumpet call isn’t some random signal to rejoice. It is finding the reason in every day life; seeing your daughter freely and willingly choose to give her money to help kids in third world countries get clean water 💗, watching someone come to Christ, being thankful for the life He has given us, etc. We have endless reasons to be thankful, what we lack is the vision to see them and respond. We need to walk in the light so that we can hear the call and be blessed.
