Devotions: Blessings from Closeness to God

How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You
To dwell in Your courts.
We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
Your holy temple.

Psalm 65:4 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

God is awesome in power and might, abundant in mercy and grace, generous in love and kindness. He is the best person to be around. He never does anything wrong, He never hurts us, He is never selfish. We are happiest when we are close to Him. Those He has chosen to be saved and adopted are doubly blessed for we are saved from the penalty of our sins and receive all the benefits of heirs of the King. We should be glad to go to the house of the Lord for that is where we meet with His people and come to worship and learn about Him. Not that those things can’t be done elsewhere but we receive greater blessing from it when we are in God’s house. We should desire to be closer to Him always and increasingly. As with helping others, this is one of those circumstances where one doesn’t usually see the benefit of it until it is experienced. I know many who don’t think there is any profit from seeking God and abiding in Him, but they have never tried or experienced that. They are viewing it from the perspective of self, which is deceptive. But God doesn’t lie. He says that it is best for us to be close to Him. Seek closeness with God, seek satisfaction in His house, and be blessed!
